Tankless Water Heater Installation & Repair in Oklahoma City, OK

Tankless water heater installation in Oklahoma City is only as good as the gas line, venting and water behind it. We install, repair and service gas tankless water heaters, size the gas supply so the unit can fire at full output, and keep heat exchangers clean with scheduled flushing and descaling. When a tankless unit locks out with an error code, we answer 24/7.

What's included in our tankless water heater installation and repair in Oklahoma City

We handle tankless water heaters from the first install through years of service:

  • New installs and tank-to-tankless conversions. Unit selection, mounting, water connections and isolation valves.
  • Gas supply sizing. We check the meter, pipe size and run length so the unit gets enough gas to fire at full output.
  • Venting and condensate. Manufacturer-approved venting and, for condensing units, a condensate drain line.
  • Repairs. Ignition and flame failures, error codes, flow sensor faults, fan problems and leaks.
  • Maintenance. Inlet filter cleaning, flushing and descaling, and a check of venting and combustion.

Signs your tankless water heater needs service

  • An error code on the display, or a unit that locks out and will not restart
  • Hot water that turns lukewarm or cold mid-shower
  • Lower hot water flow than you used to get
  • A scale or maintenance warning from the controller
  • Whistling, rumbling or unusual fan noise
  • Water dripping from the unit, the relief valve or the condensate line

Tankless Water Heater Flushing & Descaling

Scale is the main enemy of a tankless heater. Minerals in the water collect inside the heat exchanger, and over time that crust acts like insulation. The unit works harder, can overheat and shut itself down, and the heat exchanger can be damaged.

Manufacturers are clear about the schedule. Navien recommends descaling at least once a year and says harder water, higher temperature settings and heavier use all call for more frequent service. Rinnai says to flush mineral deposits at least once a year. Rheem notes that tankless units need periodic descaling rather than a tank-style flush.

Our tankless water heater flushing and descaling service:

  1. Shut down and isolate. We turn off gas and power and close the isolation valves.
  2. Clean the inlet filter. Grit caught here can choke flow and trigger errors.
  3. Circulate descaling solution. A pump moves a manufacturer-approved solution through the heat exchanger. Navien calls for at least 45 minutes.
  4. Flush with fresh water. Navien specifies at least 10 minutes of clean water after descaling.
  5. Restart and verify. We reopen valves, restore gas and power, clear maintenance codes and confirm a steady output temperature.

If your unit was installed without isolation valves, we can add them so future service goes faster. Where scale builds quickly, pairing the heater with whole-house water filtration or a scale-control cartridge can stretch the time between visits.

Our tankless installation process

  1. Measure the demand. We count fixtures, showers that run at once and any large tubs to size the flow rate.
  2. Check the gas supply. We look at the meter, pipe size and distance to the unit location.
  3. Plan venting and drains. We route the vent to an approved termination and plan the condensate drain.
  4. Install and connect. The unit is mounted, piped with isolation valves and a relief valve, and connected to gas and power.
  5. Test and set up. We leak-test the gas connections, run the unit at high demand and set the temperature.
  6. Walk you through it. You learn the controls, the error display and the maintenance schedule.

Tankless and tank water heaters compared

TypeEfficiency range (UEF)Good to know
Condensing gas tankless0.85 to 0.96Most efficient gas option, usually vents with PVC, needs a condensate drain
Non-condensing gas tankless0.80 to 0.82No condensate drain, but venting must be rated for hotter exhaust
Gas storage tank0.54 to 0.72Lower upfront cost, but loses heat while it sits and has a shorter life

The efficiency ranges above come from Navien's published product data. Gas demand is the big practical difference. A condensing model such as the Navien NPE-240A2 is rated for up to 199,900 BTU per hour of gas input, which is why we check the gas line and meter before any conversion. Some tankless models also include a built-in recirculation pump and buffer tank. If the wait for hot water at far fixtures bothers you, see our hot water recirculation pump service.

What affects the cost of a tankless water heater

  • Unit size and type. Flow rate, condensing or non-condensing, and built-in recirculation.
  • Gas line upgrades. Many conversions need a larger line from the meter.
  • Venting. New vent routing and wall or roof terminations.
  • Location. Moving the heater from a closet to an exterior wall or garage changes the piping.
  • Repairs. Cleaning a flame rod is a smaller job than replacing a fan or heat exchanger.

We price the job after we see it, and financing is available. If a tank still makes more sense for your budget, our water heater replacement page covers that path, and we will tell you so.

Tankless water heaters in Oklahoma City: local factors

Oklahoma City's water comes from five surface reservoirs, and the city's water quality report notes that water picks up naturally occurring minerals from rock and soil on its way there. Those minerals are what form scale inside a heat exchanger, so a yearly descaling is a sensible baseline here.

Winter is the other factor. Colder incoming water in January means a tankless unit has to raise the temperature further, which lowers the flow it can deliver at a given setting. A unit sized only for summer can come up short in a cold snap like February 2021, when Oklahoma City hit minus 14°F. We size for winter. Units on exterior walls or in garages also need their built-in freeze protection working, so do not unplug them for the winter.

Why Oklahoma City chooses us for tankless water heaters

24/7

Error codes do not wait for business hours

A tankless unit that locks out with an ignition or flame failure code leaves the whole house without hot water. We answer nights, weekends and holidays, ask for the code on the display, and often have a good idea what we are dealing with before we arrive. Many tankless problems trace back to gas supply, venting, scale or a dirty inlet filter, and we check each one in order.

40+ yrs

Gas piping and venting done by a Master Plumber

Converting from a tank to tankless is mostly a gas and venting job. Our team has more than 40 years in the plumbing trade, and our work is licensed and insured. The gas line sizing, vent runs, condensate drain and water connections are handled by plumbers who have done them for decades, not people learning from the box.

4.9★

Service that keeps the unit running for years

A tankless water heater can last a long time, but only if the heat exchanger stays clean. We set you up with isolation valves and a descaling schedule that matches your water and your usage, and we explain the maintenance in plain terms. Our 4.9-star rating across 88 Google reviews comes from that kind of follow-through. We take pride in installs that still run well years later.

What our customers say

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Tankless Water Heaters questions, answered

How often should a tankless water heater be flushed and descaled?

Navien and Rinnai both call for descaling at least once a year. Navien adds that harder water, higher temperature settings and heavier hot water use all mean more frequent service. In a busy household, or if you see scale on aerators and shower heads, we may suggest a shorter interval. Your unit's manual has the final word for that model.

Can I replace my gas tank water heater with a tankless unit?

Usually, yes, but it is more than a swap. A whole-house gas tankless unit needs a lot of gas at full fire, so the line from the meter often has to be checked and upsized. The old metal flue usually cannot be reused, and condensing units need a drain for condensate. We look at all of it before you decide.

How long does a tankless water heater last?

ENERGY STAR gives tankless water heaters a life expectancy of 20 years, longer than any conventional tank model, and Rheem puts typical tankless life at 15 to 20 years or more with proper care. The biggest factor we see is maintenance. A unit that is descaled on schedule and has a clean inlet filter tends to reach that range. A neglected one often does not.

Why does my tankless water heater go cold in the middle of a shower?

Common causes are a flow rate that drops below the unit's minimum, a scaled heat exchanger that overheats and shuts down, a clogged inlet filter, a gas line too small for full output, or a venting fault. A brief burst of cold between hot draws is normal on many units and can be reduced with a recirculation or buffer setup.

Is a tankless water heater worth it?

For many households, yes. ENERGY STAR estimates a certified gas tankless unit saves a family of four about $95 a year on gas compared with a standard gas storage heater, and it frees up floor space. The installation usually costs more than a tank swap because of gas and venting work, so we lay out both options side by side.
