What's included in our whole-house repiping in Oklahoma City
A whole-house repipe replaces the water supply piping that feeds your fixtures, from the main shutoff to each faucet, toilet, shower and appliance. Our repiping service includes:
- A walkthrough and route plan. We map every fixture and decide where the new trunk lines and branches will run.
- New supply piping. PEX, copper or a mix, sized for good pressure at every fixture.
- New valves. A new main shutoff where needed and fresh stop valves at sinks and toilets.
- Old pipe removed or abandoned. We disconnect the old system so it can never feed a fixture again.
- Testing. We pressure-test the new system, flush it and check flow at every outlet.
Galvanized Water Pipe Replacement
Galvanized pipe is steel coated with zinc. When it was new, it was a good product. Decades later the zinc wears away, the steel rusts from the inside, and the scale builds until a half-inch pipe flows like a soda straw. You notice it as weak showers, faucets that sputter and rust in the first water of the day. Fittings rust through at the threads, so leaks show up at joints.
There is a health angle as well. EPA's Lead and Copper Rule Improvements treat galvanized service lines that are or ever were downstream of a lead line as "galvanized requiring replacement," because they can absorb lead particles and release them after the lead pipe is gone. The rule covers service lines, not the pipe inside your walls. Still, if your home has galvanized piping, it is worth finding out what the service line is made of too. Our lead water service line replacement page explains how that works.
Not sure what you have? EPA notes that a magnet sticks to iron pipe but not to lead, and that a light scratch on copper shows a yellow-orange color.
Repiping materials compared
| Material | Strengths | Watch out for |
| PEX | Flexible, fewer fittings, fast to install through finished walls, tolerates expansion | Must be kept out of sunlight and away from high heat sources |
| Copper | Rigid, long track record, handles heat and UV well | Higher material cost, and uninsulated copper is vulnerable in a hard freeze |
| CPVC | Lower material cost, rigid | Can become brittle with age, so it needs careful handling |
| Galvanized steel | Not used for new supply piping | Rusts from the inside, narrows, and leaks at threads |
IBHS research backs up the freeze point: its 2024 report on interior water damage names uninsulated copper as the most problematic material in extreme cold, and notes that plastic pipe becomes more brittle with age, especially after sun exposure. New pipe for drinking water also has to meet the federal lead-free standard, which EPA describes as a weighted average of 0.25 percent lead on wetted surfaces.
What affects the cost of repiping
We price each repipe after the walkthrough. The size of the house and the number of bathrooms matter most. Access matters next: a house with an open attic or crawlspace is simpler than a slab home where every line has to come down from above. Material choice, the number of fixtures, finished surfaces like tile and plaster, and any permit and inspection the job needs also play a part. Financing is available.
Repiping older Oklahoma City homes
We see three common repipe stories in Oklahoma City. The first is the older house with original galvanized supply pipe, where pressure has faded for years. The second is the slab home that has had two or three slab leaks on the same copper, where rerouting the whole system overhead ends the cycle. The third is a house that froze in a hard cold snap and split pipe in several places, where the homeowner would rather replace the whole run than keep finding damage.
If low pressure is your main complaint, we check the pressure regulator and the service line before recommending a repipe, because a failed regulator or a clogged service line can mimic bad house piping. Our water pressure repair service covers that testing. To learn who will be doing the work, meet our team.
