Nicoma Park: from poultry colony to east-side city

Nicoma Park takes its name from developer G. A. Nichols, combined with the last letters of Oklahoma. Nichols opened it in 1928, nine miles east of the state capital, as a colony for chicken farmers, with plans for homes, a hatchery and a brooder house. The venture began to fail in 1931, when a lawsuit claimed he had not delivered promised improvements, but the community stayed and grew. Today the city covers about 3.4 square miles, the 2020 census counted 2,313 residents, and most of town is served by Choctaw/Nicoma Park Schools, including Nicoma Park's elementary, intermediate and middle schools.

Housing built a little at a time

Unlike suburbs that went up in a single boom, Nicoma Park has added homes steadily for nearly a century. The American Community Survey counts about 1,080 housing units, from roughly 96 built before 1940 to about 108 built between 2010 and 2019, with every decade in between represented. The estimated median year built is 1975. About 216 units, close to one in five, are mobile homes, and about 81 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.

That spread means a plumber in Nicoma Park can see a prewar house, a 1960s home and a new build on the same afternoon. Older homes may still have galvanized supply pipe and cast-iron drains. Mobile homes have supply lines under the floor inside the skirting, where a gap lets wind reach the pipe. Newer homes are more likely to have PEX and PVC, but their water heaters, valves and fixtures still wear out on their own schedule.

City water, private wells and septic

The City of Nicoma Park operates a groundwater system, but federal drinking water records list it with only about 127 service connections. The Census counts roughly 960 occupied households in town, so before any water line, pressure or filtration job we confirm where your water actually comes from: the city system, another provider or a private well. If you are on a well, the pressure tank, pressure switch and pump controls are part of your plumbing, and our septic plumbing and pressure tank repair service covers them.

Well water also behaves differently from treated city water. If you notice staining, grit in faucet screens or a sulfur smell, have the water tested first, because the right treatment depends on what is actually in it. The results tell us whether a sediment filter, a whole-house system or a reverse osmosis unit at the kitchen sink is the right fit.

Homes that are not on a public sewer rely on on-site systems, which the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality oversees. DEQ certifies the installers who build septic systems and the people who perform the soil profile tests used to design them. We work on the plumbing that feeds the system: the building drain, the line to the tank and the cleanouts that make service possible.

Freeze exposure and permits in Nicoma Park

On February 16, 2021, Oklahoma City fell to minus 14°F, its second-lowest temperature on record, according to the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, and IBHS treats 20°F as the alert threshold for pipes in southern homes. In Nicoma Park, the most exposed lines are the ones in well houses, under mobile homes, at outdoor hydrants and in garages. A safe heat source in the well house and insulation on exposed pipe go a long way, and our plumbing winterization service covers it before the season starts.

Nicoma Park is its own city with a mayor and council, so permits for work inside city limits go through Nicoma Park rather than Oklahoma City or Midwest City. When a job needs one, we handle the application and schedule the inspection, so you can focus on getting your water back. Ask us before you start a remodel, since the permit question is easier to settle early.

Freeze season is here in Nicoma Park.

Emergency & Everyday Plumbing in Nicoma Park

24/7 Emergency Plumbing Services

Whether it is a burst pipe, a sewer backup or a well that stopped pumping, Nicoma Park residents can reach us any time of day or night. We help you shut things off before we arrive.

Drain Cleaning & Clogged Drain Repair

Slow or clogged drains in Nicoma Park homes, from older houses to mobile homes, get cleared with the right tool for the pipe. We also check whether a septic or sewer line is the real cause.

Toilet Repair & Installation

We fix running, leaking and clogged toilets in Nicoma Park homes. On a septic system, a running toilet also floods the tank with extra water, so it is worth fixing quickly.

Faucet & Sink Repair

Leaky faucets and sink drains are everyday fixes. On well water, mineral buildup can wear out faucet cartridges sooner, and we replace them in Nicoma Park kitchens and baths.

Garbage Disposal Repair & Replacement

We repair and replace disposals in Nicoma Park kitchens. If your home is on septic, ask us whether a disposal makes sense, since ground food waste adds solids to the tank.

Water Pressure Problems & Repair

Low pressure on a Nicoma Park well often comes from the pressure tank or switch. On city water, it may be the regulator or old pipe. We test the system and fix the actual cause.

Plumbing Fixture Installation & Replacement

We install new faucets, sinks, toilets, tubs and showers in Nicoma Park homes and mobile homes, choosing fixtures that fit the space and replacing old shutoff valves at the same time.

Water Heater Services in Nicoma Park

Water Heater Repair

We repair gas and electric water heaters in Nicoma Park homes and mobile homes, including pilot, element, thermostat and gas valve problems, and we handle the breakdowns that come with winter.

Water Heater Replacement & Installation

When a water heater fails, we replace it with the right unit for your Nicoma Park home. Mobile homes can require specific models and connections, and we install those properly too.

Tankless Water Heater Installation & Repair

A tankless water heater saves space in a smaller Nicoma Park home. We install, repair and descale them on a regular schedule, which matters on well water that can carry more minerals.

Hot Water Recirculation Pump Installation

A recirculation pump brings hot water to your faucets faster. It saves water too, which helps when your Nicoma Park home runs on a well or a septic system.

Leak Detection, Water Lines & Repiping in Nicoma Park

Slab Leak Detection & Repair

A slab leak can raise your water bill or make a well pump run more often than it should. We find under-slab leaks in Nicoma Park homes and repair them with as little concrete work as possible.

Water Leak Detection & Repair

On a well, a hidden leak shows up as a pump that cycles when no one is using water. We find leaks in Nicoma Park walls, floors and buried lines with acoustic and pressure testing, then repair them.

Water Line Repair & Replacement

We repair and replace the buried water line between the meter or the well and your Nicoma Park house, whether it is old galvanized, copper or plastic pipe.

Whole-House Repiping

Older Nicoma Park homes with corroded galvanized pipe and mobile homes with aging supply lines both benefit from repiping. We replace the whole system with PEX or copper in one planned project.

Lead Water Service Line Replacement

If you are unsure what your Nicoma Park service line is made of, we can check it where it enters the house. If it is lead or galvanized, we replace it from the meter to the home.

Smart Water Shutoff Valve Installation

A smart shutoff valve closes your main when it senses a leak. On a Nicoma Park well system, that also keeps the pump from pushing water into a burst pipe for hours.

Sewer & Drain Line Services in Nicoma Park

Sewer Line Repair & Replacement

If your Nicoma Park home is on a sewer main, we repair and replace damaged laterals. If you are on septic, we fix the line between the house and the tank, including cracked or sagging pipe.

Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting clears heavy grease and buildup from sewer and drain lines with high-pressure water. In Nicoma Park, we use it on lines that lead to a city sewer main or to a septic tank.

Sewer Camera Inspection

A camera inspection shows roots, cracks and sags in your Nicoma Park sewer or septic line. Buying a home here? A sewer scope before closing tells you what you are getting.

Trenchless Sewer Repair & Replacement

Trenchless sewer repair and pipe bursting replace a damaged Nicoma Park sewer line through small access holes, which saves landscaping, fences and driveways.

Cast-Iron Sewer Pipe Descaling

Older Nicoma Park houses may still have cast-iron drain lines. Descaling removes the rust buildup inside so the pipe drains properly again and lasts longer.

Sewer Root Removal

Trees in Nicoma Park yards send roots into sewer and septic lines through loose joints. We cut them out, flush the line and recommend a repair that keeps them from coming back.

Main Sewer Cleanout Installation

A cleanout gives easy access to clear your main line. We install them for Nicoma Park homes on city sewer and on the line that runs out to a septic tank.

Sewer Odor Detection & Repair

Sewer or septic odors in a Nicoma Park home can come from a dry trap, a bad vent or a cracked line. We use smoke testing and cameras to find the exact source.

Winter Freeze Protection & Repair in Nicoma Park

Burst Pipe Repair

A burst pipe under a mobile home or inside a wall needs quick action. We stop the water, replace the broken section and check for other freeze damage in Nicoma Park homes before we leave.

Frozen Pipe Repair & Thawing

Well lines, pressure tanks and pipes under mobile homes are the most exposed plumbing in a Nicoma Park cold snap. We thaw them safely and repair any splits before the water comes back on.

Plumbing Winterization

We insulate exposed pipes, protect well equipment and pressure tanks, and winterize vacant Nicoma Park homes and mobile homes before freezing weather sets in.

Outdoor Faucet & Hose Bib Freeze Repair

Outdoor faucets and yard hydrants freeze and split in hard cold. We repair and replace them at Nicoma Park homes with frost-free hose bibs and freeze-resistant hydrants.

Sprinkler System Winterization

If your Nicoma Park lawn has a sprinkler system, we drain it, protect the backflow preventer from freezing and repair cracked parts so it is ready for spring.

Gas, Water Quality & Specialty Plumbing in Nicoma Park

Gas Line Repair & Installation

If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside. Then call us to find and repair the leak on your Nicoma Park home's gas piping and pressure test the system.

Whole-House Water Filtration Installation

Nicoma Park's city system draws from groundwater, and private wells do too. We install whole-house filters and reverse osmosis drinking water systems sized to what a water test shows.

Backflow Testing & Certification

Nicoma Park homes with irrigation and businesses with backflow assemblies need them working to protect the water supply. We test, certify, repair and replace backflow preventers.

Outdoor Gas Line Installation (BBQ, Fire Pit, Outdoor Kitchen)

We install gas lines to grills, fire pits and outdoor kitchens at Nicoma Park homes, sized for the appliance, buried properly and pressure tested before you use them.

Walk-In Tub Plumbing Installation

A walk-in tub helps Nicoma Park residents stay safely in their homes. We handle the plumbing, including the supply lines, the fast drain and the hot water capacity it needs.

Septic Plumbing & Pressure Tank Repair

For Nicoma Park homes on a private well or septic system, we repair pressure tanks, pressure switches and check valves, plus the drain line that runs from the house to the septic tank.

Commercial Plumbing in Nicoma Park

Commercial Drain Cleaning

Shops, restaurants and other businesses in Nicoma Park can call us for commercial drain cleaning and grease line jetting, during business hours or after closing.

Commercial Plumbing Maintenance

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Nicoma Park plumbing questions

Is my Nicoma Park home on city water or a private well?

Check your bills first. The City of Nicoma Park runs a groundwater system, but federal records list it with only about 127 service connections, far fewer than the town's roughly 960 occupied households, so it is worth confirming. If you have no water bill and there is a pressure tank in a closet, garage or well house, you are on a well. We work on both, from city service lines and meters to well pressure tanks, switches and the lines between the well and the house.

Who regulates septic systems in Nicoma Park?

On-site sewage systems in Oklahoma fall under the Department of Environmental Quality. DEQ certifies the installers who build septic systems, and those installers inspect their own installations. DEQ also trains and certifies the people who perform the soil profile tests used to design new systems. We handle the plumbing side: clearing and repairing the building drain, the line to the tank and the cleanouts, and finding the running toilets and leaks that send extra water into the system and can shorten its life.

Why is the water pressure dropping on my well?

On a well system, slowly falling pressure often points to the pressure tank, the pressure switch or a clogged sediment filter. A tank that has lost its air charge makes the pump cycle on and off rapidly, which wears the pump out early. A switch with burned contacts can keep the pump from starting at all. We test the tank pressure, check the switch and filters, and repair or replace the parts that have failed, then confirm the system holds steady pressure through a full pump cycle.

Do you work on mobile homes in Nicoma Park?

Yes. The Census counts about 216 mobile homes in Nicoma Park, close to one in five housing units. We repair supply and drain lines under the floor, replace water heaters and fixtures, and insulate exposed pipe inside the skirting. Damaged or missing skirting is one of the main reasons mobile home pipes freeze, so we check it on winter calls. If a line froze and split, we replace it with freeze-tolerant PEX where that makes sense and check the rest of the run, including the connection at the riser.

How do I protect a well and pipes during a hard freeze?

In February 2021 Oklahoma City hit minus 14°F, its second-lowest temperature on record, and IBHS treats 20°F as the alert threshold for pipes in southern homes. Before a freeze, make sure the well house or pump enclosure has a safe heat source, insulate the pressure tank and exposed lines, disconnect hoses and drip faucets on outside walls. If you lose water, check whether the well line or the pressure switch froze, and call us any hour for help. Never thaw a pipe or tank with an open flame.
