What's included in our outdoor gas line installation in Oklahoma City
We handle the whole run, from your house piping to the appliance:
- Load and route planning. We add up the BTU ratings of your grill, fire pit, heaters or outdoor kitchen and plan the most practical route.
- Tie-in. A new branch from your existing gas piping, with a shutoff valve at the tie-in.
- Trenching and burial. A trench to code depth, with the buried pipe protected and traceable.
- Risers and connections. Approved risers where the line leaves the ground, a reachable shutoff at each appliance, and a quick-disconnect for portable grills.
- Pressure test and startup. The new line is tested before it goes into service, then each appliance is connected and checked for leaks.
Grill, fire pit and outdoor kitchen gas lines
Every outdoor gas appliance has its own needs. A built-in grill in an outdoor kitchen usually gets a hard-piped connection and a shutoff inside the cabinet where you can reach it. A freestanding grill on a patio does best with a quick-disconnect so it can roll away for cleaning or storage. Fire pits and fire tables need a shutoff and a control valve in a safe, reachable spot. Patio heaters and gas lights add small loads that still count against the line size.
If an appliance came set up for propane, it has to be converted with the maker's approved kit or replaced with a natural gas model. The two fuels are not interchangeable at the burner.
What affects the cost of an outdoor gas line
- Distance. The length from the tie-in point to the appliance is the biggest factor.
- Load. More appliances or bigger burners may need larger pipe, and sometimes a larger line from the meter.
- Obstacles. Sidewalks, driveways, patios, trees and sprinkler lines change the route or require boring under them.
- Ground conditions. Hard, dry or rocky soil slows trenching.
- Connections. The number of risers, shutoffs and quick-disconnects.
We price the actual job after we see the yard, and financing is available. If the yard is being opened for other work, such as water line repair, ask us about planning the two together so the lawn is disturbed as little as possible.
Outdoor gas lines in Oklahoma City: local factors
Private lines are the biggest surprise in local yards. OKIE811 points out that private utilities, typically located between the meter and a building, are not owned by utility companies and may not be marked, and that property owners are responsible for locating and protecting them. An old buried line to a shop, a pool heater or a previous owner's grill can sit right where a new trench is going, so we check before we dig.
Ground conditions change with the seasons. A yard baked hard in a dry August digs very differently than the same yard after a wet spring, which affects trenching and backfill, so timing can matter. Code is the other factor. Oklahoma adopted the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code effective September 14, 2026, and Oklahoma City requires plumbing contractors to be licensed and city-registered. If you also want an existing line checked, our gas line repair service handles leak detection and pressure testing. You can also explore all of our plumbing services.
