What's included in our gas line repair and installation in Oklahoma City

We handle gas piping from the meter to every appliance in the house:

  • Leak repair. Finding and fixing leaks at threaded joints, valves, unions, flex connectors and corroded pipe.
  • Line replacement. Replacing damaged, corroded or outdated sections of black steel, CSST or buried polyethylene.
  • New gas lines. Runs for ranges, dryers, water heaters, tankless units, furnaces, fireplaces and standby generators.
  • Shutoffs and connectors. Replacing worn appliance connectors and adding accessible shutoff valves.
  • Testing. Pressure testing new and repaired piping, and leak checks at every connection.

If you smell gas, leave the building now. Get everyone outside, and do not flip switches, use your phone, light a match or open or close the garage door on the way out. From a safe distance, call 911 and Oklahoma Natural Gas at 800-458-4251. Call us once the area is safe, and we will find and repair the leak.

Signs of a gas line problem

Natural gas is odorized so you can smell a leak. Oklahoma Natural Gas describes the odor as rotten eggs or sulfur. Watch for:

  • A rotten egg or sulfur smell near appliances, the meter or along a buried line
  • A hissing or roaring sound near gas piping
  • Dead grass in an otherwise healthy lawn, blowing dirt, or steady bubbling in puddles over a buried line
  • Pilot lights that keep going out, or burners with weak, yellow or lifting flames
  • A gas bill that climbs with no change in use
  • Rust and flaking on old steel pipe, especially where it enters the house

Gas Leak Detection & Pressure Testing

A gas leak can be one loose union behind the dryer or a slow seep in a buried line nobody has looked at in decades. Our gas leak detection and pressure testing service finds out which one you have.

  1. Make it safe. We shut off gas at the meter or appliance valve and ventilate if needed.
  2. Pressure test the system. We isolate the house piping, bring it to the required test pressure and watch the gauge for any drop.
  3. Narrow it down. If the gauge falls, we test branch by branch to find which section is leaking.
  4. Pinpoint the leak. An electronic gas detector and leak solution on each fitting show the exact spot.
  5. Repair and retest. After the repair, the whole system is tested again before gas is turned back on and appliances are relit.

Pressure testing is also how we prove new work is sound, and every new line we install is tested before it goes into service. That matters most for buried piping. Federal pipeline rules require gas operators to tell customers that they do not maintain customer buried piping, that unmaintained piping may be subject to corrosion and leakage, and that it should be periodically inspected for leaks and repaired if an unsafe condition is found.

New gas line installation for appliances

Switching an electric range or dryer to gas, adding a standby generator or moving a water heater all call for a properly sized gas line. Every appliance has a BTU rating, and the pipe has to deliver enough gas for everything that might run at once over the full length of the run. An undersized line causes weak flames, lockouts and poor combustion. We add up the load, size the pipe, run it with an accessible shutoff at the appliance and pressure test it before anything is connected. On fuel-burning appliances, we check the venting too.

Smell gas? Get out first.

Leave the building, call 911 and Oklahoma Natural Gas from outside, then call us to repair the leak.

Gas piping materials compared

MaterialWhere it is usedWhat to watch
Black steel pipeTraditional interior gas pipingRust on older or damp runs, leaks at threaded joints
CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing)Newer homes, long runs through walls and atticsMust be bonded and installed per the maker's instructions
Polyethylene (PE)Buried lines to outbuildings, pools and outdoor kitchensStays underground, with a tracer wire so it can be found later
Flexible appliance connectorsFinal hookup to ranges, dryers and water heatersOld, kinked or corroded connectors should be replaced

What affects the cost of gas line repair

  • Where the leak is. A loose fitting at an appliance is quick. A leak inside a wall or underground takes more.
  • Pipe material and age. Corroded steel may need a section replaced instead of a single joint repaired.
  • Length of new runs. Longer lines and larger pipe for high-demand appliances add materials and labor.
  • Appliance load. Adding a tankless water heater or a generator can mean upsizing the line from the meter.
  • Permits and testing. Required permits and inspections are part of the job.

We price the actual job after we see it, and financing is available.

Gas lines in Oklahoma City: local factors

The code just changed. Oklahoma moved to the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code on September 14, 2026, according to the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission, replacing the 2018 edition. New gas work is held to the current code. Oklahoma City also requires plumbing contractors to hold a state license and register with the city before working inside city limits.

Older homes in the city often have steel gas piping that has been in place for decades, sometimes in crawlspaces or along exterior walls where moisture speeds up rust. Newer homes are more likely to have CSST. Gas line repair on each takes different parts and methods. Buried lines to detached garages, shops and pool heaters are the ones most often forgotten, and the ones that can leak quietly the longest.

Gas work often goes hand in hand with appliance jobs such as water heater replacement. If you are planning a buried line for a grill or fire pit, see our outdoor gas line installation service. If you want to know who is doing the work, meet our team.

Local, licensed and insured

Why Oklahoma City chooses us for gas line repair

Licensed

Licensed gas work, not a handyman fix

Gas piping is no place for guesswork. Oklahoma City requires plumbing contractors to be licensed by the state and registered with the city, and our licensed team does the work. Every joint we make is leak-checked, every new or repaired line is pressure tested before gas goes in, and every appliance connection is checked with the appliance running, so you know the work is sound before the gas comes back on.

24/7

Ready when a leak shuts you down

When a leak is on your side of the meter, the repair is the property owner's responsibility, and in winter you cannot wait days for it. We answer 24/7, find the leak, make the repair and pressure test the piping so heat and hot water can come back on. We move fast on emergencies without skipping the test, because a quick fix that still leaks is no fix at all.

Since 1985

Decades of gas piping in local homes

Our plumbing experience goes back to 1985, and we have worked on just about every kind of gas piping found in Oklahoma homes: old threaded black steel, yellow CSST, buried polyethylene to detached garages and shops, and flexible appliance connectors of every age. Knowing how each material ages tells us where to look first when a test gauge drops, and how to repair it so the repair lasts.

What our customers say

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Gas Line Repair questions, answered

What should I do if I smell gas in my house?

Leave right away and get everyone out, pets included. Do not flip light switches, use your phone, light anything or start a car nearby. Once you are a safe distance away, call 911 and Oklahoma Natural Gas at 800-458-4251. After the utility makes the area safe, call us to find and repair the leak on your side of the meter.

Who is responsible for gas lines on my property?

Piping on the house side of the meter, including buried lines to a detached garage, pool heater or grill, is generally the property owner's. OKIE811 notes that private lines between the meter and a building are not owned by utility companies. Federal pipeline rules also require gas operators to tell customers they do not maintain customer buried piping and that it should be periodically inspected.

What is a gas pressure test?

We isolate the gas piping, pressurize it with air or an inert gas to the test pressure the fuel gas code requires, and watch a gauge for the required time. Any drop means a leak somewhere in the system. We then narrow it down section by section with leak detector solution and an electronic detector until we find the exact joint or pipe.

Can I hook up the gas line for my new range or dryer myself?

We do not recommend it. Gas fittings that look tight can still leak, and an undersized line can starve an appliance and cause poor combustion. Oklahoma City requires plumbing contractors to be state-licensed and city-registered, and any gas connection should end with a leak test. We size the line, install an accessible shutoff valve and test every connection.

Does a gas leak cause carbon monoxide?

Not directly. A leak releases unburned natural gas, which is a fire and explosion hazard. Carbon monoxide comes from fuel that burns poorly, often in an appliance with a bad vent or dirty burner. Both are dangerous. The CDC recommends battery or battery-backup CO detectors near every sleeping area and yearly service of fuel-burning appliances by a qualified technician.
