A 1903 railroad town that boomed in the 1970s

Piedmont sits in the northeast corner of Canadian County, with a small piece reaching north into Kingfisher County, about ten miles north of Yukon. Dr. E. H. Long started the townsite in 1903, and the St. Louis, El Reno and Western Railway made it a farm market town with grain elevators and cotton gins until the railroad left in 1924, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. For decades the town stayed tiny: 146 people in 1960 and 269 in 1970.

Then Oklahoma City commuters discovered the large lots and rural setting. Piedmont jumped to 2,006 residents by 1980 and 7,394 by the 2020 census. The latest five-year Census estimates, covering 2020 to 2024, give a median build year of 2001. Of 2,894 housing units, 1,528 were built in 2000 or later, including 786 in the 2010s alone, and owners occupy about 91 percent of homes.

Newer homes have their own maintenance cycle. Many houses finished in the 2000s are due for their first water heater replacement, and original builder-grade faucets, toilets and pressure regulators are starting to wear. The smaller group of 1970s and 1980s acreage homes brings older supply lines and septic connections into the mix.

Piedmont water: wells, Oklahoma City and a lot of pipe

Piedmont's water comes from two places. The Piedmont Municipal Authority's 2026 water quality report lists three groundwater wells plus water purchased from Oklahoma City through a consecutive connection. The city's January 2024 Water Master Plan Update says most of the supply now comes from OKC, the wells are aging, and the city should add a second OKC connection with a new booster station.

The system is spread thin. The master plan describes roughly 123 miles of mostly PVC water lines across a service area of about 123 square miles, including part of the former Okarche Rural Water District. Its hydraulic model found low pressure during peak hours in the rural water district area and other areas above 100 psi, which the plan calls the pressure that affects customers' equipment, adding that complaints have occurred. It also notes that small water lines throughout Piedmont limit available fire flow, one reason the plan proposes miles of larger mains.

For homeowners, that makes pressure worth measuring. Readings above what your fixtures and water heater are rated for call for a pressure reducing valve, and weak pressure that never improves may point to a leak or restriction on your side of the meter.

Septic country with an older sewer core

Piedmont's public sewer covers only part of town. The city's 2040 Comprehensive Plan says the sanitary sewer serves mainly the downtown and central business areas, the majority of residential development is on septic systems, and most of the collection pipe is 50 to 70 years old. That pipe leads to a lagoon-style treatment plant, and the plan notes that most residents have their septic tanks emptied at that plant every few years.

If you are on septic, slow drains and gurgling toilets can mean a full tank, a clogged line between the house and the tank, or a struggling drain field. Our septic and pressure tank repair work covers the plumbing side of that system. The plan describes nearly flat to rolling plains draining to Deer Creek, Cottonwood Creek and Soldier Creek, with potential floodplain along parts of Deer Creek, so drainage around a tank and its lines deserves attention. Keep vehicles off the tank and lateral lines, and know where the lid is before you need it.

Wind, freezes and Piedmont permits

Open country means wind, and the city even brands itself with a windmill logo and the phrase Winds of Progress. On May 24, 2011, the EF-5 Calumet-El Reno-Piedmont-Guthrie tornado tracked west of Piedmont, and the National Weather Service in Norman reports that a Mesonet station west-northwest of El Reno measured a 151 mph gust during that storm. In winter, the same exposure drives cold air into attics, crawlspaces, garages and pump houses. On February 16, 2021, Oklahoma City dropped to minus 14°F, the second-coldest temperature in its records, according to the Oklahoma Climatological Survey.

Permits run through the Piedmont Community Development Department on Edmond Road NW. Most construction work requires a Piedmont Contractor's License, inspections are booked for the next business day with day-before scheduling, and the city's plumbing inspection list includes ground water and sewer, rough-in, sewer line, gas line pressure tests, gas meter resets and water heater change-outs.

Freeze season is here in Piedmont.

Frozen pipes, burst pipes, split hose bibs and sprinkler backflow damage. We answer 24/7 when the temperature drops. See our winter plumbing services.

Emergency & Everyday Plumbing in Piedmont

24/7 Emergency Plumbing Services

On a spread-out Piedmont acreage, a broken line can run a long time before anyone notices. Call any hour. We will talk you through shutting the water off, then come fix the break.

Drain Cleaning & Clogged Drain Repair

Slow drains in a Piedmont house on septic can mean a clogged line or a full tank. We clear clogs in sinks, tubs and the main line and tell you if the problem is past the house.

Toilet Repair & Installation

On septic, a running toilet does more than waste water. It overloads the tank and drain field. We fix running, leaking and clogged toilets in Piedmont homes and install new ones.

Faucet & Sink Repair

Builder-grade faucets in Piedmont homes from the 2000s are wearing out. We repair drips and leaks, replace faucets and sinks, and swap old supply lines and shutoff valves.

Garbage Disposal Repair & Replacement

If your Piedmont home is on septic, a disposal adds solids to the tank, so use it sparingly. We repair or replace disposals and can tell you whether a septic-rated model makes sense.

Water Pressure Problems & Repair

Piedmont's 2024 water master plan found areas above 100 psi, a level it says affects customers' equipment, and low pressure at peak hours in the rural district. We test pressure and install or replace regulators.

Plumbing Fixture Installation & Replacement

Finishing a new Piedmont build or updating a 2000s bathroom? New faucets, toilets, tubs, sinks and shower valves go in to code, and we replace worn supply lines while we are there.

Water Heater Services in Piedmont

Water Heater Repair

Many of Piedmont's 2000s and 2010s homes are reaching the age when water heaters start to fail. We repair gas and electric tanks, from igniters and thermocouples to elements, valves and leaks.

Water Heater Replacement & Installation

Piedmont lists a hot water change-out among its plumbing inspections, so replacing a tank here means a permit and an inspection. We size the new heater and install it so it is ready for the inspector.

Tankless Water Heater Installation & Repair

Larger new Piedmont homes can be a good fit for tankless water heaters. We confirm gas line size and venting, install and repair tankless units and descale them every so often to keep scale from cutting efficiency.

Hot Water Recirculation Pump Installation

Larger new Piedmont homes may put the water heater far from the main bath. A recirculation pump brings hot water to the tap quickly and cuts the water you run while waiting.

Leak Detection, Water Lines & Repiping in Piedmont

Slab Leak Detection & Repair

If your Piedmont home is on a slab, a hidden supply leak can run for weeks before it shows. We pinpoint the leak first, then recommend whether breaking out a small patch of concrete or rerouting the line overhead makes more sense.

Water Leak Detection & Repair

Long yard lines on Piedmont acreage can leak underground without a wet spot ever showing. Ground microphones and pressure tests let us follow those leaks to the spot without digging trenches at random.

Water Line Repair & Replacement

Piedmont acreage homes can have long service lines between the meter and the house. We repair breaks and replace damaged yard lines, trenching carefully across lawns and driveways.

Whole-House Repiping

Piedmont's 1970s and 1980s homes may have aging copper, CPVC or polybutylene supply lines. When leaks start repeating, we repipe with PEX or copper and leave the walls as intact as possible.

Lead Water Service Line Replacement

Piedmont's homes are mostly newer, but the Piedmont Municipal Authority keeps a service line inventory you can request. If an older line is found to be lead, we replace the private portion.

Smart Water Shutoff Valve Installation

On Piedmont acreage, a leak in a long line or an outbuilding can go unnoticed for days. A smart shutoff valve closes the water automatically and alerts your phone.

Sewer & Drain Line Services in Piedmont

Sewer Line Repair & Replacement

Homes on Piedmont's public sewer connect to a collection system the city says is mostly 50 to 70 years old. We camera and repair the private sewer lateral that runs from your house to the main.

Hydro Jetting

Grease and debris in the line from a Piedmont house to its septic tank or the city sewer build up over time. Hydro jetting clears the pipe fully, and we check its condition first to protect older lines.

Sewer Camera Inspection

Buying in Piedmont? A camera inspection shows the condition of the sewer line and where it runs, whether it goes to a city main or to a septic tank out in the yard.

Trenchless Sewer Repair & Replacement

For Piedmont homes on the public sewer, trenchless pipe bursting can replace an old lateral without digging a trench across a driveway or landscaped yard.

Cast-Iron Sewer Pipe Descaling

Older homes near downtown Piedmont may still drain through cast-iron pipe. Descaling grinds away the rust scale that narrows it, and a follow-up camera pass tells us how much life the pipe has left.

Sewer Root Removal

Trees along Piedmont's drainage ways and on older lots send roots into sewer and septic lines. Cutting and flushing clears them, and we suggest ways to keep them from coming back.

Main Sewer Cleanout Installation

A cleanout between a Piedmont house and its septic tank or sewer tap makes clogs and camera work far easier. We install accessible outdoor cleanouts on new and older homes.

Sewer Odor Detection & Repair

Sewer smells around a Piedmont home can come from a full septic tank, a failed vent, a dry trap or a broken line. We find the source with smoke and camera testing.

Winter Freeze Protection & Repair in Piedmont

Burst Pipe Repair

Wind across open Piedmont land pulls heat from attics, garages and crawlspaces, so pipes there can split in a hard freeze. Shut the main, then call: burst lines get repaired at any hour.

Frozen Pipe Repair & Thawing

Piedmont's open country leaves homes exposed to wind during arctic outbreaks like February 2021, when Oklahoma City hit minus 14°F. Safe thawing comes first, then a split check before the water goes back on.

Plumbing Winterization

Wind-exposed Piedmont homes, barns and shops need pipe insulation before the first hard freeze. We insulate exposed lines, seal drafts and winterize properties left vacant over the winter.

Outdoor Faucet & Hose Bib Freeze Repair

Acreage homes in Piedmont may have hydrants and spigots far from the house. We repair freeze-split hose bibs and fit frost-free valves that empty after each use.

Sprinkler System Winterization

Piedmont lists sprinkler work among its plumbing inspections, and irrigation backflow devices crack easily in a freeze. We drain and winterize sprinkler systems and repair backflow preventers.

Gas, Water Quality & Specialty Plumbing in Piedmont

Gas Line Repair & Installation

Piedmont inspects gas line pressure tests and gas meter resets, so gas work here follows the permit process. We find leaks, pressure test lines and repair or extend gas piping.

Whole-House Water Filtration Installation

Piedmont blends water from its own wells with water bought from Oklahoma City. We install whole-house filtration and reverse osmosis systems, and on private wells we size treatment to a water test.

Backflow Testing & Certification

Irrigation systems on Piedmont lots and commercial buildings may need backflow testing. Testing, repair and replacement can usually be handled together, including irrigation devices split by winter cold.

Outdoor Gas Line Installation (BBQ, Fire Pit, Outdoor Kitchen)

Big Piedmont backyards suit outdoor kitchens and fire pits. We run properly sized buried gas lines, add shutoffs and pressure test the work, which the city inspects.

Walk-In Tub Plumbing Installation

Staying on your Piedmont land into retirement is easier with a walk-in tub. We size the drain, supply and water heater for it so it fills and empties without a long wait.

Septic Plumbing & Pressure Tank Repair

Most Piedmont homes run on private septic systems, according to the city's 2040 plan. We repair the plumbing between house and tank, clear septic line clogs and fix pressure tanks and switches on private wells.

Commercial Plumbing in Piedmont

Commercial Drain Cleaning

Piedmont's restaurants, cafes and shops need grease lines and floor drains kept clear. We keep those lines flowing with routine cleaning and hydro jetting timed around your hours.

Commercial Plumbing Maintenance

Businesses, churches and offices in Piedmont can schedule routine plumbing checks. We check restrooms, drains, water heaters and backflow assemblies to catch problems before they disrupt the day.

Why Piedmont calls us

Since 1985

Ready for both ends of the housing stock

Our plumbing experience goes back to 1985. In Piedmont that experience covers both ends of the housing stock: 1970s and 1980s acreage homes with aging septic connections and supply lines, and 2000s and 2010s subdivisions with PEX, pressure regulators and water heaters coming due for replacement. We find the actual cause before recommending a fix, so you are not paying for parts the house did not need. On a newer home, that often means a regulator or valve rather than a whole new system.

24/7

Out here at any hour

Piedmont is spread out, and a broken line on an acreage can run a long time before anyone notices. The phone is answered 24/7, holidays included, and the first thing we do is help you find and close your main shutoff. Same-day service is often available, and we move fast on emergencies like a septic backup into the house or a burst pipe in a wind-chilled attic, where every hour adds to the damage. You talk to a plumber when you call, not a message service, and we tell you what to do before we arrive.

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Piedmont plumbing questions

Is my Piedmont house on city sewer or a septic system?

There is a good chance it is septic. Piedmont's 2040 Comprehensive Plan says the public sanitary sewer serves mainly the downtown and central business areas, while most residential development uses private septic systems. Your utility bill is a quick check: if it carries no sewer charge, you likely have a tank. If you are not sure where your tank or lines are, we can trace the line from the house with a camera and locator, then mark where it runs.

Where does Piedmont's tap water come from?

It is a blend. The Piedmont Municipal Authority's latest water quality report lists three groundwater wells plus water bought from Oklahoma City through a consecutive connection, and the January 2024 Water Master Plan Update says most of the supply now comes from OKC. The plan recommends a second connection to Oklahoma City, new booster pumping, a new water tower and more wells so the system can keep up with growth.

Why is my water pressure too high or too low?

It can be the city system or your house. Piedmont's 2024 master plan found low pressure during peak hours in the rural water district area and pressures above 100 psi elsewhere, which the plan says affects customers' equipment. Inside the home, a failed pressure reducing valve, a partly closed valve or a hidden leak can cause similar symptoms. A gauge test at a hose bib tells us which direction to look first, and it only takes a minute.

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in Piedmont?

Plan on it. Piedmont's inspection request form lists a hot water change-out as a plumbing inspection, alongside gas line pressure tests, sewer lines and rough-ins. Most construction work also requires a Piedmont Contractor's License. Inspections are scheduled for the next business day and must be requested at least a day ahead, so build a little time into a planned replacement for the final sign-off. An emergency swap still gets hot water back first.

How do I protect pipes on a windy Piedmont property?

Wind pulls heat away from pipes in attics, crawlspaces, garages and pump houses, so a line can freeze on a breezy night that would be safe in still air. IBHS flags 20°F as the temperature where southern homes start to see frozen pipes. Insulate exposed lines, seal drafts, disconnect hoses and drain or protect irrigation backflow assemblies. February 2021, when Oklahoma City bottomed out at minus 14°F, is the cold to plan for.
