Hydro Jetting in Oklahoma City, OK

Hydro jetting in Oklahoma City is how we clean a drain line instead of just opening it. A jetter drives high-pressure water through a hose and nozzle that scrubs grease, sludge and roots off the full circle of the pipe and flushes the debris downstream. It is the fix for kitchen lines and sewers that clog again a few weeks after a cable machine.

What's included in our hydro jetting in Oklahoma City

Jetting is powerful, so we treat it as a planned job rather than a blind blast of water. A typical visit includes:

  • A look at the line first. On older or problem pipe, we run a camera to check for breaks, separated joints and sags before we add pressure.
  • The right nozzle. We pick a head for the job: a penetrating nozzle for packed clogs, a wall-cleaning nozzle for grease, or a root-cutting head.
  • Jetting from the best access point, usually an outside cleanout, working upstream to downstream.
  • A full-flow flush to carry the loosened grease and debris out to the main.
  • Before and after results. On camera jobs, you see the pipe wall before and after cleaning.

Signs a line needs hydro jetting

  • A drain that clogs again within weeks of being cleared with a cable
  • A kitchen line that drains slowly no matter how often it is snaked
  • Gurgling and slow drains across the house that point to a coated main line
  • Roots that come back on the cable every time the sewer is cleared
  • A restaurant or commercial kitchen line with steady grease buildup
  • A kitchen line that backs up after heavy holiday cooking

How hydro jetting works

A jetter pumps water through a reinforced hose to a nozzle with small openings. Jets pointing backward push the nozzle forward and spray the pipe wall as it travels. A forward jet breaks into the blockage ahead. As we pull the hose back, the water scrubs the full circle of the pipe and pushes everything loose toward the sewer main.

Pressure gets the attention, but flow matters just as much, because flow is what carries debris away. As an example of professional equipment, RIDGID rates its KJ-3100 jetter at 3,000 psi of working pressure and 5.5 gallons per minute, for drain lines from 2 to 10 inches. We set pressure and nozzle to the pipe size and condition rather than running everything flat out.

Hydro jetting vs. cabling a drain

Cable machineHydro jetting
What it doesBores a path through the clogScours the whole pipe wall and flushes debris
Grease and sludgeLeaves most of it on the pipeRemoves it
RootsCuts them backCuts and flushes them with a root head

Best useQuick relief for most clogsRepeat clogs and lines that need a true cleaning

Many jobs use both. Routine drain cleaning with a cable gets the water moving, and jetting finishes the job when the line keeps coating up.

When we will not jet a line

High-pressure water is the right tool for a sound pipe and the wrong one for a failing pipe. We hold off, or switch to a cable, when the camera shows any of these:

  • Clay or fiber pipe that is cracked, crushed or deformed into an oval
  • Joints that have pulled apart, with soil visible in the gap
  • Cast iron rusted thin along the bottom, where the pipe has started to channel
  • A full collapse, where water would have nowhere to go

Be wary of jetting with no camera. Blasting a broken line can wash out the soil around it and make a spot repair into a bigger dig. If anyone offers to jet an old sewer without looking first, ask why.

Our hydro jetting process

  1. Find out the history. How often it clogs and what was done before tells us whether jetting is the right call.
  2. Inspect older pipe. We camera clay, cast iron and any line with a history of trouble.
  3. Set up at the cleanout. We protect the area and work from outside whenever we can.
  4. Jet and flush. We clean in passes, then run full flow to clear what came loose.
  5. Check the result. A second camera pass or a flow test confirms the line is open.
  6. Plan the next step. If roots or grease will return, we talk about a maintenance schedule or repair.

Grease, roots and scale: what jetting removes

Kitchen grease is the classic case. It coats the pipe in layers until the opening shrinks to a pencil-width channel. Roots are the second. Jetting with a root head clears them, and our sewer root removal service addresses the joints they come through. Old cast iron grows rough scale inside that catches paper and waste, and when that scale is heavy, cast-iron pipe descaling is the more aggressive answer. For restaurants and other businesses, our commercial drain cleaning covers grease line jetting on a schedule.

What affects the cost of hydro jetting

  • Line size and length. A kitchen branch is a smaller job than a long main sewer.
  • Access. An outside cleanout is quickest. A roof vent or pulled toilet adds time.
  • How heavy the buildup is. Years of grease or a dense root mass take more passes.
  • Camera work. Inspection before and after adds to the visit and protects your pipe.
  • Regular service. Lines jetted on a schedule have less buildup, so each cleaning goes faster.

We price the actual job after we see the line, and financing is available.

Hydro jetting in Oklahoma City: local factors

The City of Oklahoma City reports that more than one-third of sewer line blockages in the city are caused by fats, oils and grease. That is in the public system. Your own line, from the house to the city main, is your responsibility under City policy, so grease that builds up there is yours to clear. The plumbing code even sets a steeper minimum slope, a quarter inch per foot, for drain piping upstream of a grease interceptor, which shows how seriously grease is taken in commercial kitchens.

Clogs that start in private lines feed a bigger problem. EPA estimates there are at least 23,000 to 75,000 sanitary sewer overflows a year in the U.S., not counting backups into buildings. Keeping your line clean keeps that mess out of your house. Learn more about Plumber Oklahoma City, Ok Plumbing & Repair.

Why Oklahoma City chooses us for hydro jetting

40+ yrs

Knowing when not to jet

Our team has spent more than 40 years in the plumbing trade, and part of that experience is knowing when a jetter is the wrong tool. A cracked clay joint, a crushed section or a pipe worn thin can be made worse by high pressure. We look before we jet older lines, and if the pipe needs repair, we tell you that instead of selling you a cleaning.

24/7

Grease clogs on any night

Restaurant lines back up on Friday nights, and home kitchen lines plug the day after Thanksgiving. We answer 24/7, including weekends and holidays, so a grease clog does not have to shut down a kitchen or a family gathering. For restaurants and other businesses, we can also set up regular jetting so the line gets cleaned before it fails instead of after.

Licensed

Licensed for whatever we find

Jetting often turns up something that needs a plumber, not just a machine operator: a broken cleanout cap, a sag in the line, or an old fitting that leaks. Our licensed plumbers can handle that repair as part of the same project. We are licensed and insured for residential and commercial work, and we stand behind our work, so one call covers both the cleaning and whatever repair it turns up.

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Hydro Jetting questions, answered

Is hydro jetting safe for old pipes?

It is safe for most pipe in sound condition, including PVC, cast iron and clay that is in good shape. It is not right for every line. Pipe that is cracked, separated at the joints or badly corroded can be damaged by high pressure. That is why we camera older lines first and match the pressure and nozzle to what we find.

How is hydro jetting different from snaking a drain?

A cable machine, often called a snake, drills a path through the clog. That restores flow, but grease and sludge stay stuck to the pipe walls and catch the next clog. A jetter scours the whole inside of the pipe and flushes the loosened debris away, so the line keeps draining properly for much longer.

Can hydro jetting remove tree roots?

Yes, with the right nozzle. Root-cutting nozzles and steady flow can clear fine roots and root masses from a sewer line. Jetting does not seal the joint the roots came through, though, so they grow back over time. We show you on camera where they enter and talk through options, from routine cleaning to repairing the joint.

How often should a restaurant grease line be jetted?

It depends on the kitchen's volume, its menu and how well the grease interceptor is maintained. Some busy kitchens need jetting every few months, while others go much longer. The reliable way to set a schedule is to jet the line, inspect it on camera, then check again later to see how fast grease builds back up.

Does hydro jetting make a mess inside the house?

Very little when we work from an outside cleanout, because the water and debris flow down the line toward the sewer main, not back into the house. Without a cleanout, we may have to work from a roof vent or a pulled toilet, and we protect the area first. Adding a cleanout makes future jetting simpler.
