From a river ford to a growing city

Harrah sits in the southeast corner of Oklahoma County at a natural ford on the North Canadian River. E. W. Sweeney ran a ferry there and then a bridge in 1891, and the settlement carried his name until December 1898, when it was renamed for Frank Harrah, who had bought forty acres and developed the town site. Harrah incorporated in 1908. Horseshoe Lake, an old cutoff of the river, later supplied water for development, and Oklahoma Gas and Electric began operating a generating station in Harrah in 1924, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Growth has picked up lately. The Historical Society counts 6,254 residents in April 2020, up from 5,095 in 2010. Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put the median home at 1989, and about a quarter of Harrah’s roughly 2,700 homes were built in 2010 or later. In the same week we might work on a fresh PEX system in a new subdivision, a 1970s house, and a farmhouse with additions from three different decades. Manufactured homes are part of the mix too, and the supply lines under their floors need extra freeze protection.

Six city wells and a city sewer plant

Inside the city, the Utility Department provides water, sewer and trash service. Harrah’s 2026 water quality report says the water comes from six groundwater wells, and EPA records list the system as serving about 4,200 people. Public Works runs a wastewater treatment facility rated at 990,000 gallons per day and also handles stormwater and erosion control.

The same report lists naturally occurring uranium and radium among the contaminants detected in 2025 sampling and attributes them to erosion of natural deposits. That fits what is known about the rock under central Oklahoma, which carries metals of its own. If you want to know what your service line is made of, the report invites customers to call the city for its service line inventory.

Private wells and septic beyond the city lines

With about 4,200 people on a city system in a town of more than 6,200, a good number of Harrah households run their own wells, and those rural lots typically treat wastewater on site. Federal drinking water rules stop at the public system, so Harrah well owners handle their own testing; the CDC suggests a yearly check at a state-certified lab for coliform bacteria and nitrates, among other things. Septic work is regulated by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, which requires an Authorization to Construct before a system is installed or modified and puts maintenance on the property owner. We handle septic plumbing and pressure tank repair on the house side, and whole-house water filtration after a well test.

The ground matters too. Harrah lies in the Cross Timbers, the belt of post oak and blackjack oak woodland on sandy, rolling ground that covers the northeast side of the metro, and those oak roots are a steady source of sewer and septic line trouble. Harrah also still farms: corn, soybeans and alfalfa, plus orchards and produce, per the Historical Society. That means barns, yard hydrants, stock tank lines and long buried water runs. Open fields give a north wind a clean shot at all of it. On February 16, 2021, Oklahoma City recorded minus 14°F, and on a night like that an uninsulated well house or hydrant line freezes fast.

Permits and codes in Harrah

Harrah requires permits for plumbing, electrical and mechanical work, and the city requires a license for each. Building permit applications have to comply with the International Residential, Building, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. Applications go to the permit clerk at City Hall, 19625 NE 23rd Street, and the city has its own building inspector. We pull the plumbing permit and meet the inspector, and you can read more about our company before you call.

Emergency & Everyday Plumbing in Harrah

24/7 Emergency Plumbing Services

Harrah after midnight, a pressure tank that will not stop cycling or a sewer backup in a new build: we pick up 24/7. Tell us whether you are on city water or a well, and we will walk you through the shutoff.

Drain Cleaning & Clogged Drain Repair

Clogs in Harrah’s newer subdivisions are often wipes, grease or leftover construction debris. In older farmhouses, they are roots and sagging pipe. We clear the blockage, and on septic homes we confirm the line to the tank is moving.

Toilet Repair & Installation

A running toilet on a Harrah well means the pump cycles all day long, and on city water you pay for every gallon. We repair flush valves, fill valves and leaking bases, and replace cracked or worn-out toilets.

Faucet & Sink Repair

From a farmhouse kitchen sink to a new-build bathroom vanity, we repair leaking faucets, worn cartridges, cracked drains and failing shutoff valves throughout Harrah, and replace sinks and faucets when repairs no longer make sense.

Garbage Disposal Repair & Replacement

We repair jammed, humming and leaking garbage disposals in Harrah homes on city sewer. If you are on septic, we will talk through whether a disposal belongs in your kitchen at all, because every bit of ground food ends up in the tank.

Water Pressure Problems & Repair

Weak showers on a Harrah well often mean a failing pressure switch or a waterlogged tank. On city water, high pressure can wear out fixtures and water heaters. We diagnose either one and install or replace pressure regulators.

Plumbing Fixture Installation & Replacement

Finishing a new Harrah build or updating a farmhouse bath? We install and replace sinks, faucets, toilets, tubs and shower valves, with a city permit whenever the work calls for one.

Water Heater Services in Harrah

Water Heater Repair

Harrah’s city wells and private wells both deliver groundwater that leaves sediment in a tank over time. We repair pilots, thermocouples, gas valves and elements, and handle winter water heater repair when a cold snap pushes an old unit past its limit.

Water Heater Replacement & Installation

About a quarter of Harrah’s homes were built in 2010 or later, so many of their original water heaters are reaching retirement age. We replace them with properly sized gas or electric units, installed to the plumbing code the city enforces.

Tankless Water Heater Installation & Repair

Families in Harrah’s newer homes ask about tankless heaters for longer showers and a free corner of the garage. We install and repair them, and flush and descale them on schedule, because mineral scale coats a heat exchanger.

Hot Water Recirculation Pump Installation

Larger new Harrah homes can put a bathroom far from the water heater. A recirculation pump brings hot water to the tap quickly and cuts the water you waste waiting, which matters on a well or a septic system.

Leak Detection, Water Lines & Repiping in Harrah

Slab Leak Detection & Repair

Harrah slab homes carry their water lines under the concrete. If you hear water moving with every fixture off or feel a warm patch of floor, we locate the slab leak and repair or reroute the line.

Water Leak Detection & Repair

A Harrah well that runs more often than it should, a soggy spot in the yard, or a city bill that jumped for no reason all point to a hidden leak. We find it with detection equipment, underground leaks included, before anyone digs.

Water Line Repair & Replacement

Between the meter or wellhead and the house, Harrah water lines run under lawns, driveways and pasture. We repair leaks and replace failing underground lines, setting new pipe at a depth that keeps it safe from frost.

Whole-House Repiping

Older Harrah farmhouses and 1970s homes may still carry galvanized steel water pipe that rusts closed from the inside. We replace galvanized lines with modern pipe and bring back the pressure your fixtures were built for.

Lead Water Service Line Replacement

Harrah’s water quality report invites customers to call the city for its service line inventory. If your line turns out to be lead or galvanized, we replace the customer-side service line to your home.

Smart Water Shutoff Valve Installation

A smart water shutoff valve closes the line automatically when it detects a leak, a good fit for Harrah homeowners who travel or keep a second building on the property. We install them on city and well systems.

Sewer & Drain Line Services in Harrah

Sewer Line Repair & Replacement

Harrah’s sewer plant is rated at 990,000 gallons a day, but getting your wastewater there is the job of your private sewer line. Cracks, bellies and root intrusion in that line are ours to fix, by spot repair or full replacement.

Hydro Jetting

When a Harrah sewer line keeps clogging with grease or fine roots, a cable just punches a hole through the mess. Hydro jetting cleans the full pipe diameter. We camera the line first to confirm it can handle the pressure.

Sewer Camera Inspection

A sewer scope before closing on a Harrah home can catch what an ordinary inspection misses: cracked pipe, sags that hold water, roots, or a line that runs to a septic tank nobody mentioned.

Trenchless Sewer Repair & Replacement

When a Harrah sewer line fails under a driveway, a patio or a row of mature trees, trenchless repair or pipe bursting can replace it through small pits. Less digging means less yard to put back together.

Cast-Iron Sewer Pipe Descaling

Harrah homes from the 1960s and 1970s may have cast iron drains narrowed by scale. We descale the pipe back to its full diameter, then camera it so you know how much life it has left.

Sewer Root Removal

Harrah lies in the Cross Timbers, and post oak roots find sewer joints the way water finds a low spot. We cut roots out of sewer lines and septic inlet pipes, then show you the footage of where they got in.

Main Sewer Cleanout Installation

Many Harrah farmhouses and older homes have no exterior cleanout, which makes every main-line clog harder to reach. We install a main sewer cleanout so the next drain cleaning is faster and cleaner.

Sewer Odor Detection & Repair

A sewer smell in a Harrah home might be a dry floor drain, a broken vent pipe, a loose toilet seal or a septic tank that is overdue for service. We trace odors to the source with camera and smoke testing.

Winter Freeze Protection & Repair in Harrah

Burst Pipe Repair

Pipes under manufactured homes, in farmhouse crawlspaces and in attics split when the temperature crashes. We shut down the water, replace the burst section and check for the leaks that only show up after a Harrah freeze thaws.

Frozen Pipe Repair & Thawing

Open fields around Harrah give a north wind nothing to slow it down, and on February 16, 2021, Oklahoma City hit minus 14°F. We thaw frozen pipes safely, find any splits, and fix the spot that froze so it stays protected.

Plumbing Winterization

Harrah properties often include barns, shops, stock tank lines and seasonal cabins. We insulate exposed pipe, wrap well-house plumbing, and winterize vacation homes and buildings that sit empty through the cold months.

Outdoor Faucet & Hose Bib Freeze Repair

Yard hydrants and outdoor spigots on Harrah farms and new homes alike crack when water freezes inside them. We repair them and install frost-free hose bibs that drain back into the wall when shut off.

Sprinkler System Winterization

Many newer Harrah homes come with irrigation systems. We blow them out before winter, protect the backflow preventer from freeze damage, and repair the backflow assembly when a cold snap has already cracked it.

Gas, Water Quality & Specialty Plumbing in Harrah

Gas Line Repair & Installation

We repair and install gas lines for Harrah homes, shops and outbuildings, and pressure test every new run before it goes into service. If you smell gas, get everyone outside first, then call us from the yard.

Whole-House Water Filtration Installation

Harrah’s 2026 water report lists naturally occurring uranium and radium among detected contaminants, measured against EPA limits. If you want more treatment at the tap, or you are on a private well, we install whole-house filtration and reverse osmosis systems.

Backflow Testing & Certification

Irrigation, livestock watering and hose connections can all pull dirty water back into a Harrah supply line. Regular testing and certification catches a failing assembly, and we install, replace or repair irrigation backflow preventers as needed.

Outdoor Gas Line Installation (BBQ, Fire Pit, Outdoor Kitchen)

A gas grill or fire pit that never needs a tank swap is a handy upgrade for a Harrah backyard. We extend your gas service to the patio, pressure test the new line, and get the city permit when one is required.

Walk-In Tub Plumbing Installation

A walk-in tub can help a Harrah homeowner stay safe and independent at home. Our part is the plumbing behind it: the supply and drain hookups, a properly set mixing valve, and enough hot water to fill it.

Septic Plumbing & Pressure Tank Repair

Off the city lines, Harrah runs on wells and septic. We repair pressure tanks, pressure switches, well-to-house lines and the plumbing that carries waste out to your tank. New tanks or drain fields need DEQ approval first.

Commercial Plumbing in Harrah

Commercial Drain Cleaning

Restaurants, schools and shops in Harrah work their drains hard. Grease lines get hydro jetted, floor drains get cleared, and we book the work around your business hours.

Commercial Plumbing Maintenance

We keep Harrah businesses, churches and offices running with planned plumbing maintenance: water heaters, restrooms, backflow devices and drains, checked before they fail in the middle of a workday.

Local, licensed and insured

Why Harrah calls us

24/7

On call for farm and town

Harrah calls come from city water customers and from well owners far from any meter. We answer around the clock, including weekends and holidays, and we can talk you through shutting off a well pump at the breaker or closing the main valve while we are on the way. When a pressure tank fails at dinnertime or a frozen hydrant line splits overnight, you get a real person on the phone, not a voicemail box. Same-day service is often available, and we arrive ready to work on wells, septic lines and city connections alike.

Licensed

Licensed work, the way the city requires

Harrah requires a license for plumbing permits, and the reason is simple: venting a water heater, pressure testing a gas line and setting a sewer line at the right slope all take training. We are licensed and insured, and our plumbing experience goes back to 1985. We pull the permit, build to the plumbing code the city enforces, and meet the inspector, so the job is done right the first time on a new build or on a farmhouse that has been added onto for generations.

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Harrah plumbing questions

Where does Harrah’s city water come from?

Harrah’s 2026 Consumer Confidence Report says city water comes from six groundwater wells, and EPA lists the system as serving about 4,200 people. The report also lists naturally occurring uranium and radium among detected contaminants, with the EPA limit shown next to each result, and attributes them to erosion of natural deposits. The city posts a new report every year on its website. If you are on a private well instead, nobody publishes a report for you, so a yearly test at a certified lab is the only way to know what is in your water.

Does Harrah have city sewer, or will I need septic?

Harrah’s Public Works runs a wastewater treatment facility rated at 990,000 gallons per day, and homes connected to city sewer drain there. Check your utility bill: a sewer charge means you are on it. Properties without a sewer connection, typically rural lots, use on-site septic systems regulated by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality. DEQ requires an Authorization to Construct for any new or modified system and leaves maintenance to the property owner. We repair the plumbing on either kind of property, from the cleanout to the line running out to the tank.

Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Harrah?

Yes, for most work. Harrah issues plumbing, electrical, mechanical and building permits, and the city requires a license for plumbing permits. Building permit applications must comply with the International Residential, Building, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. Permits go to the permit clerk at City Hall on NE 23rd Street. Replacing a water heater, rerouting a gas line or replacing a sewer line generally calls for one. We pull the permit on our jobs and work with the city’s building inspector, so the paperwork is handled before the work is covered up.

How do I keep a Harrah well house and pressure tank from freezing?

Insulate the well house walls and every exposed pipe, seal gaps where wind gets in, and add a safe, thermostat-controlled heat source rated for the space. Wrap the line from the wellhead to the tank, and the line from the tank to the house where it comes above ground. Disconnect hoses and protect yard hydrants. Oklahoma City hit minus 14°F on February 16, 2021, and research cited by IBHS treats 20°F as the alert threshold for pipes in southern homes. When the forecast drops below that, check the well house before bed.

I just bought a newer home in Harrah. What should I check?

Find the main water shutoff and make sure it turns. Note the date on the water heater label and look for an expansion tank. Check the pressure at an outside spigot, because the plumbing code Harrah uses calls for a pressure-reducing valve when static pressure tops 80 psi. Confirm whether you are on city sewer or septic, and if it is septic, have the tank located and inspected. A sewer camera inspection soon after closing can catch construction debris, sags and broken pipe while they are still simple to fix.
